Kirinyaga County – In a vibrant ceremony held on Monday, Mutira Ward MCA Hon. David Kinyua Wangui took yet another bold step towards empowering grassroots communities by donating piglets to members of the Kianjagi Self-Help Group, under his ongoing community empowerment programme.

Speaking during the handover, Hon. Kinyua emphasized the importance of agribusiness in addressing unemployment and food insecurity. “Empowering our communities through livestock farming is one way of building economic resilience. These piglets will help families generate income and improve their nutrition,” he said.
Residents who gathered for the occasion were quick to express their appreciation, with many pledging their unwavering support for Hon. Kinyua’s leadership and future political ambitions. Community leaders and residents alike assured the MCA of their full backing as he eyes a parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections.
Among the beneficiaries was local farmer Mr. Wachira wa Mejja alias Meppa, who commended the MCA for the timely support but also called for further investment in animal feed production. “We are grateful for the piglets, but our biggest challenge now is the high cost of animal feeds from local agrovets. We urge our leaders to consider supporting local production of feeds in their next projects,” Meppa urged.
He noted that the demand for pork in the region remains strong, with Kianjagi residents consuming an estimated three pigs weighing 50 kilograms each daily, reflecting a vibrant and growing market.
