Kimandi, Kenya — A vibrant move of God marked this year’s highly anticipated Youth Conference held at Love of Jesus Ministry, Kimandi, where youth from across the region gathered for a powerful encounter focused on Spiritual Growth and Maturity. The event was hosted by the dynamic Youth Patron, Pastor Anthony Mugendi, with the deeply impactful Guest Preacher, Pastor John Mbui, taking center stage.

Under the theme "Spiritual Growth and Maturity", the conference drew inspiration from 1 Corinthians 13:11, reminding attendees that maturity is not simply growing older — or more spiritual in appearance — but growing deeper in Christ.

“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” – 1 Corinthians 13:11

Growth vs. Maturity: A Needed Distinction

Pastor Mbui emphasized that while growth is visible — a quantitative increase, such as numbers in church or activities attended — maturity is internal, a measure of spiritual character and depth. He noted that many confuse spirituality with maturity, yet the two are distinct.

Six Pillars of Spiritual Growth and Maturity

The congregation was guided through six vital elements that facilitate spiritual growth:

  1. New Birth – Everything starts with salvation, being truly born again in Christ.
  2. The Word of God2 Timothy 3 teaches that Scripture is profitable for teaching and equipping.
  3. Prayer – A daily connection with God that strengthens spiritual muscles.
  4. Active Service – Pastor Mugendi encouraged the youth to find something to do in the church.
  5. Fellowship – Being planted in a community of believers is essential for accountability.
  6. Good Company – Surrounding oneself with godly friends promotes growth and avoids spiritual compromise.

Marks of a Spiritually Mature Believer

Attendees were stirred by a powerful teaching on the characteristics of maturity, including:

  • Hunger for righteousness
  • Ability to distinguish between good and evil (Hebrews 5:12–14)
  • Enduring hardship without complaining – especially when giving
  • Making mature decisions and becoming capable of teaching others
  • Bearing fruit and leaving impact

Wisdom for Relationships and Marriage

In the second major session, the conversation shifted to Wisdom for Relationships and Marriage, with a key sub-topic: Important Relationships in Life. Pastor Mbui highlighted four key relational dimensions:

  1. Vertical Relationship – Between man and God. "Stop doing what you like and do what you find until what you like finds you," he challenged.
  2. Parental Relationship – Honoring and listening to parents as a source of direction.
  3. Prophetic Relationship – Submitting to the voice of spiritual authority.
  4. Horizontal Relationship – Interaction with peers and others in society.

A critical distinction was drawn between infatuation and true love:

Infatuation

True Love

Emotionally driven

Spirit-led and natural (from God)

Focuses on physical (looks, style)

Focuses on inner qualities and values

Self-seeking

Selfless and sacrificial

Short-lived

Enduring and covenant-minded

Praise session after the short lunch break
After a lunch break, an exclusive session for those aged 18 and over tackled "Wisdom for Courtship" — one of the most candid, necessary conversations of the day. Key insights included:

  1. Don’t show interest if you’re not mature enough for a relationship.
  2. Avoid closed-door meetings during courtship; meet in public.
  3. No man has permission to touch a woman without spiritual and parental blessing.
  4. Men are sensitive to sight, and can easily be misled. They must guard their eyes.
  5. Women are sensitive to touch and words — boundaries are crucial.
  6. Churches attract more women because of their response to words; men must lead with integrity, not manipulation.

“The devils you don’t defeat, your children will have to deal with,” Pastor Mbui warned, urging personal purity and generational responsibility.

Interactive Q&A Session with Bishop Jane

The conference ended with a vibrant Q&A session led by Bishop Jane, addressing real questions from the youth:

  • “What is the right age for marriage?”
“Age is not just a number,” Bishop Jane said. “The right age is when both parties are mature. But don’t delay too much — delayed marriage may make one appear emotionally handicapped.”
She highlighted the three benefits of marriage: profit, companionship, and warmth.
  • “How long should courtship take?”
Pastor Mbui clarified that courtship is not dating — it is intentional and should lead to marriage soon after pre-marital counseling.

A Move of God Among the Youth

The Love of Jesus Ministry Youth Conference was more than just a meeting — it was a divine appointment. With raw truth, biblical teaching, and heartfelt worship, the youth left challenged, equipped, and spiritually charged to walk in growth, maturity, and wisdom in all areas of life.

“It’s not about age,” one youth remarked, “It’s about knowing God, knowing yourself, and walking in His purpose.”
