As the clock struck midnight on December 31, 2024, the world erupted in jubilant celebrations to welcome 2025. From breathtaking fireworks displays to lively parties, cities around the globe marked the occasion spectacularly.

The tiny Pacific nation of Kiribati was among the first to ring in the New Year, followed by New Zealand, where Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower was illuminated by dazzling fireworks. In Australia, Sydney Harbour Bridge became a canvas for an awe-inspiring pyrotechnic display, witnessed by millions worldwide.

As the New Year journeyed westward, Europe celebrated with grandeur. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower lit up the sky with its annual fireworks show. Meanwhile, London’s Big Ben chimed in 2025, with a spectacular fireworks display over the River Thames. New York Times Square saw the iconic ball drop in the Americas, with crowds cheering despite the winter chill.

Back home in Kenya, Kirinyaga County residents came together to mark the New Year with diverse and exciting activities. Kerugoya town was a hive of activity, with celebrations stretching into the early hours of January 1st. Streets buzzed with music, laughter, and fireworks until 3 a.m., as revelers celebrated the arrival of 2025.

One of the highlights was the Vuka Fest, held at Njukiri Forest Lounge. The event featured a stellar live performance by the Kisisi Band and was hosted by the renowned comedian Morey wa Kibiru. The lively atmosphere attracted a huge crowd, eager to dance and sing their way into the New Year.

At Emmartex Garden, revelers enjoyed a Mugithi Night, headlined by the celebrated Mugithi superstar Wanjiru wa Waya. The event was a treat for lovers of traditional Kikuyu music, providing a unique and culturally rich way to celebrate.

For those seeking a spiritual start to 2025, an interdenominational Kesha at Kirinyaga Polytechnic Grounds brought together thousands of residents. This solemn yet joyous event featured prayers, songs, and inspirational messages, uniting Christians across the region.

Fireworks also lit up the skies in Kerugoya town. The Catholic Church organized a mesmerizing display, delighting families and onlookers who gathered to witness the spectacle. Meanwhile, in Mwea, Jamii Executive Gardens hosted an extraordinary celebration featuring 1,000 fireworks. The event was accompanied by electrifying music performances from DJ Dycee and Tallemcee, drawing in large crowds who danced the night away.                                      

From serene prayers to high-energy parties, the celebrations in Kirinyaga County showcased the region’s vibrant culture and community spirit. As 2025 begins, the joyous mood and unity seen during these celebrations offer hope for a prosperous year ahead.
